Dear Readers:
Today, Saturday, January 21, 2017, marks the 64th running of the Duncan F. Kenner Stakes in honor of this Louisiana horseman. This $75,000 stakes race at six furlongs for four-year-olds and upwards (post time: 2:18 p.m. Central) is part of the Fair Grounds’ Road to the Kentucky Derby card that also includes the Silverbulletday Stakes for three-year-old fillies, the Grade III Lecomte Stakes for colts, as well as the Louisiana Stakes, the Marie G. Krantz Memorial Stakes and the Grade III Colonel E. R. Bradley Handicap.
Read up on why Duncan Kenner is honored today with this stakes race in the Times’ previous post for Deep South Magazine, “A Legacy of Triumph: The Red Fox of the Old South & Old Abe of Ashland Plantation.” For those wanting a more lengthy read, see the Times’ post: “More Stories of Duncan F.
