The Times is pleased to sponsor the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation’s (TRF) fundraiser Ponies, Pumpkins & Pies, slated for Sunday, October 25th at Pitney Meadows Community Farm in Saratoga Springs, New York. This event will split its proceeds between Pitney Meadows’ recreational trails program and TRF’s efforts for retired racehorses such as Second Chances, a vocational training program for inmates working as Thoroughbred caretakers. Read more here about this “drive-through” socially distanced experience at Pitney Meadows’ farm.
For those who can’t attend this event, there’s still multiple ways to support the TRF, including through general donations or by sponsoring a specific retired racer. A total of 20 horses are available to choose from for sponsorship on the TRF webpage—there’s 21-year-old Invincible Vince, the gelding who “literally wears his heart on his sleeve” with his unique heart-shaped marking; My Hot Date, an 11-year-old gelding who is part of the Second Chances program in Ocala, Florida; and 20-year-old Heavy Horton, who resides at a TRF sanctuary farm in Virginia. Read more here about these horses, plus the 17 more in need of support and sponsorship!
